Enjoy the comfort of our delicious local food and drink in the New Forest this November! From warming lunches and dinners at local country pubs, picnics amongst our autumn wildlife, local feasts on bonfire night and a taste of delicious pannage pork!
From farmers and local artisan producers who grow and create our amazing food and drink, to the shops and hamper companies that sell it, Taste the New Forest will be celebrating them all this Autumn and Winter. And we can’t forget our talented chefs who make the delicious dishes in our pubs, restaurants and cafes to satiate appetites and satisfy palates for locals and visitors alike.
This Month’s Features…
Pubs & Cosy Fires
Imagine sitting by the open fire in a beamed country pub, sipping on a local ale and enjoying delicious traditional pub grub, whilst looking out onto the beautiful open forest and maybe even seeing a free-roaming pony or two wander by. There is no place better to relax in a cosy pub than in the New Forest this November.
Pannage Pork
It is traditional for those commoners whose pigs are released for pannage and have fattened up from all the acorns to butcher and salt them, ready for cooking and eating in the winter. Pannage pork can be bought locally from farm shops, direct from local producers and can be tried in many pubs and restaurants over winter, too.
Autumn Picnics
Tuck into lots of wonderful local food whilst on a picnic in the New Forest, surrounded by stunning autumn colours and free-roaming animals. Make your own autumn picnic with local produce from New Forest farm shops, or order a fantastic pre-made hamper. And don’t forget a warm drink in a flask to keep you warm!
Firework Night Feasts
Historically, bonfire night eats would include parkin cake, baked potatoes, and soups cooked on the bonfire, which you will still find in some places. But typically, these days you are more likely to find sausages, burgers, cider toffee, marshmallows and other tasty sweet treats, which in the New Forest are mostly made with local produce.
